Anyone have experience with how to use matrix protocol to create a chat feature in an app?
> I wonder if we could add drop in support for messaging over matrix or something?
Did you hear about the ESO/EHT press conference that will take place tomorrow May 12 at 15:00 CEST? We'll present groundbreaking results about the Milky Way obtained by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration.

Hello and good day to all musicians and music lovers of the fediverse!
Last year's FediVision event was a fun success, so this year we're doing it again.
#FediVision is a fediverse-wide music competition and celebration, inspired by the much bigger and better financed Eurovision Song Contest.
The main event and final voting period will be on Saturday, May 14th.
To organise the song submissions and all the info and FAQs, we've made a website: https://fedivision.party
This week's Matrix Live is broadcasted from @firstname.lastname@example.org offices, with five cool demos. Want to see video rooms, anonymous screenshots, better read receipts, @email@example.com, and customisable layouts for Element mobile? There you go!

#RightToRepair will become an absolute necessity in the near future. Having all the supply chain completely fucked up and prices all over increasing like never before, people will need to learn how to do stuff themselves instead of pulling a credit card.
One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.
It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.
It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!
In case you haven't seen yet, Distrowatch did a thorough review of postmarketOS v21.12 w/ Phosh: https://distrowatch.com/weekly-mobile.php?issue=20220418#postmarketos
This clearly was a lot of effort and highlights some issues worth fixing like the screen brightness controls allowing to turn off the screen completely. Thanks, @distrowatch!
Encrypting the web is a win for the entire public that’s hard to understate. Congrats to @letsencrypt! https://www.eff.org/press/releases/lets-encrypt-wins-levchin-prize-work-internet-security
"Thus saying 'People don’t want to run their own servers' is akin to saying 'People don’t want to start their own YouTube channel'. Both sentences contain the same amount of statistical bullshit."
The open data revolution won’t happen unless the research system values the sharing of data as much as authorship on papers.
Aaaand here it is:
It also lets you *compare* two different versions to clearly see differences.
A background script runs every 2h to fetch new versions of the map. The page refreshes hourly.
So, Elon Musk has become a significant shareholder in Twitter. Jack Dorsey has said he regrets his role in centralizing the Internet. Net change? I'm guessing minimal. Twitter will keep sucking, and people will complain about Twitter sucking but use it anyway. OR, they could move to a better alternative like Mastodon. I realize I'm preaching to the choir posting about Mastodon on Mastodon, but still. Tell your friends.
